Bellini's Norma

December 20th at the Cambrian Hall

Norma is a masterpiece of the Bel Canto period and one of the most famous operas of all time. It tells the story of a Druid Priestess who forms an illicit bond with a Proconsul of the Roman army, thereby betraying her people and beginning a chain of events that may lead to war. Bellini's great work contains some of the most beloved music in all opera, including the glorious aria for soprano, "Casta Diva".

Norma

LisaMarie Bresett

LisaMarie discovered opera 18 years ago and has been joyfully singing in local opera companies around the lower mainland since then. Roles include both Norma and Adalgisa in Norma, Romeo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Dame Caruthers in Yeomen of the Guard, Flora in La Traviata, Fenena in Nabucco, and many others. She now enjoys singing exclusively in Opera Pro Cantanti. She looks forward to some monumental performances of Norma upcoming soon, which you won't want to miss!

Pollione 

Derek Bacchioni 

Like most opera singers, Derek started his singing in the shower. His formal training as an opera singer began at 2005.
Starting out at OPC with many Comprimario roles like Borsa (Rigoletto), Gastone (La Traviata), Malcolm (Macbeth) and Arturo (Lucia); after a couple of years, he graduated to do number of wonderful lead roles with OPC like Pollione (Norma), Alfredo (La Traviata), Macduff (Macbeth), Edgardo (Lucia), and Ismaele (Nabucco), performing these on numerous occasions.

Adalgiza

Annette Ducharme

Annette Ducharme, from Windsor, Ontario, is an award winning recording artist and songwriter. She entered the world of operatic singing with OPC, having trained extensively with some of Canada’s most experienced vocal coaches. Her passion for singing is undeniable.

Oroveso

Roberto Solla

Roberto began his acting career in Italy, performing in theatre from 1988 for four years. After moving to Vancouver in 2002, he continued acting and took on leading roles at the Italian Cultural Centre. In 2018, he began taking voice lessons and joined an Italian choir as a bass, as well as the choir at the Cathedral. He started at OPC in the chorus and has since performed both comprimario and leading roles, including the Doctor in La Traviata, Banco in Macbeth, Zaccaria in Nabucco, and Oroveso in Norma.
