Opera Pro Cantanti (OPC) is a Vancouver-based opera company, founded in 2007 by a small group of passionate singers. Unique in Canada, OPC is the only opera company, whether professional or amateur, that presents a full season of opera in repertory. There are five grand operas in OPC’s repertory - La Traviata, Norma, Nabucco, Lucia di Lammermoor, Macbeth.
The Cambrian Hall, where OPC performs, has a small stage and just 100 seats. This closeness to the singers creates an exciting experience that is impossible to achieve in a larger space.
Our mission is twofold. First, we provide local singers with the opportunity to perform grand operas multiple times in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Second, we strive to remain faithful to the composer’s original vision in our productions. We don’t alter or modernize the operas. Any adjustments we make are solely to ensure that the opera can be performed.
Our productions feature simple sets and costumes that suggest the time and place without striving for historical accuracy. Instead, we invite the audience to use their imagination to complete the picture, allowing the music and performances to shine.
Starting with 2024-2025 season OPC offers payments for solo lead, supporting, comprimario and shorter roles.
